Developing in Your Nanny Role

In any employment, to progress, you need to accept feedback. This could be about your performance as a Nanny, organisational skills, how quickly you get work done, a certain skillset you have or interview skills. So how do we listen and learn about feedback we receive, especially if you do not agree? It is hard to listen to something we don’t agree with, but try to look at the bigger picture. Reflection is key to move on.

Interview Skills

Interview skills are important, the way you communicate, discuss, and portray yourself. You may be confident in your abilities which is great, but can you get that across to your interviewer? How you take on feedback and grow further is also important. Listening and then acting on it then builds trust and a relationship with your employer. It also keeps you open minded.

When applying for certain positions you may feel a bit deflated when you are told “you are not quite right” . This could be down to lots of things-connection, skillset, experience, availability, affordability. Try not to take it personally. It is not meant to be and move on.

Attitude

Attitude is important when gaining feedback. Try not to be negative with your response, always be polite, even if you do not agree with it. This is an important skill to have and will encourage healthy discussions, not heated discussions.
